Copper Thieves Caught in St. Clair

The Franklin County Sherriff’s Office has been investigating a series of At&t owned cable thefts throughout the county over the past several months. The phone cable has been stolen from Gray Summit, Union, St. Clair, Lonedell, Anaconda, and Luebbering areas. It was suspected thieves have been cutting down cable and burning the casing off prior to selling the copper to recycling centers. At&t has estimated the Anaconda area thefts had exceeded $140,000. Acting on a tip, deputies arrested four suspects at homes in the St. Clair area on Friday March 1, 2013. Some of the copper cable has been recovered. Officials say that two of the suspects were allegedly burning the casing off when officials arrived. 32-year-old Jeffery Brown, 32-year-old Walter Taylor, 39-year-old Kyle Pelton, and 23-year-old Bryan Osborn, all from St. Clair, have been charged with felony stealing and property damage. All are being held in the county jail in Union on cash bonds of $35,000. Officials say the investigation will remain open and additional arrests are possible.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.
