Backstoppers are Putting the Second Annual Hats Off to Backstoppers Weekend

The Franklin County Backstoppers are putting the second annual Hats Off to Backstoppers weekend November 3rd and 4th. Uniformed personnel from the area’s police, fire, and ambulance departments will be stationed at shopping centers and even intersections in the county passing out informational stickers about the Backstoppers in exchange for a cash donation. The Backstoppers organization was started in 1959 and provides needed support and financial assistance to the spouses and children of all local and county police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMT’S who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Washington Police Chief Ken Hahn is the chairman of the Franklin County Backstoppers.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.

Alex Collins ran for 130 yards and three touchdowns as the Missouri Tigers fell to Arkansas, 28-3, Friday afternoon at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The defense for Mizzou could have hardly started any better, as they allowed positive yardage on just one of Arkansas' first eight plays. In all, five of those eight plays went for negative yardage, including a Ricky Hatley sack to give the defense two three-and-outs to start the game.
