A St. Clair teenager is recovering from a gunshot wound to the foot. The Franklin County Sheriff's Department says the accidental shooting occurred at eight-thirty last night near River Round Access and Old Cove Road. Members of the Missouri Department of Conservation and the St. Clair Ambulance and Fire Departments responded. Officials say three subjects were hunting when they shot and wounded a raccoon. Sheriff Gary Toelke says 18-year old Tyler Sumner was holding the animal down with his foot while one of his hunting buddies attempted to shot it. Officials say the animal tried to get away when Sumner moved his foot as a shot was fired and he was struck. Sumner was unable to walk back to the access and was picked up by boat instead. He was taken to Mercy in Washington for treatment.
