The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Tony Helfrich with the St. Francis Borgia Baseball Team. Helfrich pitched a no hitter against Montgomery County with 10 strike outs and two walks. Coach Rob Struckhoff says Helfrich has good control, keeps the ball down in the zone and rarely gives up a walk. At at the plate, Helfrich is 4 for 12 with two singles, two doubles and one batted in.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Legion Baseball Player Spencer Juergens from Washington Post 218. As a pitcher, Spencer is currently 6-0 with 32 strike outs and only four walks. He's given up seven runs, three earned over 36 innings and his ERA is .736. As a hitter, Spencer's average is .500 with 14 rbi's and 11 runs scored. In 44 official at bats, Spencer has struck out just five times with two walks.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.
