Michael Matthews

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Michael Matthews with the Washington Swim Team. The 16-year old Butterfly Specialist will be a junior at St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in the fall. This is Michael's 11th year on the team. His best stroke is in the butterfly, but he also competes in the medley which features all four strokes, the butterfly, breast, back and freestyle. Matthews is described as a fierce competitor, however he is the first to congratulate an opponent who has won a race. Michael competes during the summer, but maintains top form by swimming at the Four Rivers YMCA when the city pool closes for the winter.

OFF THE CUFF with Diane Jones

On Saturday, September 6, our family lost a dear friend to a car accident. Listeners know her as Lexi the Impulse Puppy. It surprised us a bit just how much the loss struck us--a tribute to just how much that dog loved us--and just how much we loved that dog. Dogs are not the same as people, but they certainly tap into the very best of us.
