The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Matt Jones, Catcher with the Washington Senior Legion Baseball Team. Matt finished the season with a .247 batting average and an on base percentage of .364. He posted 27 runs with 31 batted in. As a pitcher, Jones was 1-0 with two saves, 24 strike outs and eight walks over 18 and a third innings. Matt is an outstanding catcher who handles the pitchers extremely well, possesses a strong arm and rarely allows a ball in the dirt to get by. Matt is a graduate of St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. He will attend Hannibal LaGrange University on a baseball scholarship.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

The Washington Seniors came back to life with a 14-2 route of Manchester Post 208 in the loser's bracket of the state tournament in Sedalia Friday afternoon. Matt Miller pitched a complete game for the win, as Washington improved to 35-4. The victory puts Post 218 in the championship game against Fike-Blue Springs today.
