Kyle Summers

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Football Player Kyle Summers. Coach Zach Schneider will rely on Kyle a lot this season. As a junior, Summers carried the ball 93 times for 739 yards and 13 touchdowns averaging just under eight yards per carry. Defensively, Kyle made 77 tackles with 10 assists and one sack. Summers is a 5-10, 195 pound senior. His number is 44. Blue Jay fans will see Kyle at running back and linebacker this season.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored.

The Washington Post 218 Seniors are headed to state. Washington cruised through the zone 1 tournament capping off their run with a 14-9 win over Moberly in the championship game Sunday afternoon. Washington led by 10 into the bottom of the ninth. Matt Miller was the winning pitcher as Washington improved to 33-3 on the season. Ross Seitter, Aaron Meyer and Nate Hillermann all had two hits apiece. Washington banged out 14 as a team.
