Hank Vandaveer

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Pacific Senior Baseball Player Hank Vandaveer. Hank pitches and plays the outfield. His current batting average is .357 with one homer, one triple, three doubles and 14 rbi. Hank also has three stolen bases this season. As a pitcher, Hank is the ace of the staff with 25 and two thirds innings pitched. He's 3-1 with 24 strike outs and eight walks and an era of 2.18. Hank will play college baseball at Missouri S&T in Rolla. Hank had a double and a single and scored a run in Monday's 9-3 win over the Union Wildcats.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

After a day off, the Cardinals return to the diamond tonight for the first of a three-game series with the Padres from Petco Park. St. Louis is 56-and-48 this season and trots Lance Lynn to the hill. Lynn is 11-and-7 with a 3.05 ERA. San Diego counters with 9-and-10 Tyson Ross who has a 2.65 ERA this season. First pitch is at 9:10.
