Anna Houston

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Anna Houston with the Union Track and Field Team. She was recently named the Girls Outstanding Performer in the Four Rivers Conference Meet at St. Clair High School. Anna ran in the district meet in Jefferson City Saturday and qualified for the sectional in the 100 and 300 hurdles, the long jump and the 4X400 Relay. Houston was instrumental in helping Union win the conference and district meets for the first time in school history. Anna is also an honor roll student.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Basketball Player Hailey Diestelkamp with the Owensville Dutchgirls. She recently became the all-time scoring leader at Owensville High School surpassing Katie Davis. Hailey played volleyball her first two years of high school, but then decided to focus on basketball.

It came as a shock to a lot of people to find out that the contract for the Union license office, which has been operated by the Union Chamber of Commerce since the 1970's, was being turned over to a for-profit company based out of Jefferson City.

What happened? It's a classic case of two all-too-common phenomena in the world of government--unintended consequences and the revolving door.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski earned his 1,000th career win on Sunday. The sixth-ranked Blue Devils rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half for a 77-68 victory over St. John's at Madison Square Garden. Duke closed out the game on a 26-7 run. The 67-year-old Krzyzewski is the first men's head coach in Division One history to reach 1,000 career wins. The Hall of Famer holds a career record of 1,000-and 308.
