Warren County Drug Bust

Charges have been filed against eight suspects after an investigation led Warren County deputies to believe they were attempting to manufacture methamphetamine. According to police, the investigation determined all eight suspects were gathering pseudoephedrine pills for the purpose of supplying to a third person knowing they would be used to manufacture methamphetamine. The charges are the result of an ongoing investigation by WCSD Lieutenant Scott Schoenfeld into suspects manufacturing, possessing, using and selling methamphetamine throughout Warren County.

The suspects charged with manufacturing a controlled substance: 48-year-old Phyllis Wyhs, 40-year-old Gwena Veal, 38-year-old Tara Deornellas, 30-year-old Melanie Erwin, 20-year-old Samantha Hollaway, 20-year-old Shanae Parks, 19-year-old Brandon Boschert and 18-year-old Melanie Erwin.

All eight are being held on a bond of $25,000 each.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

The Washington Seniors came back to life with a 14-2 route of Manchester Post 208 in the loser's bracket of the state tournament in Sedalia Friday afternoon. Matt Miller pitched a complete game for the win, as Washington improved to 35-4. The victory puts Post 218 in the championship game against Fike-Blue Springs today. Washington will need to beat Fike twice to win state.
