Stolen Truck and Pursuit Lands Man in Jail

On January 21, 2013 at approximately 6:35 pm the Washington Police Department received a report of a suspect believed to be in possession of stolen property in the area of the Washington WalMart. The reporting party also stated the stolen items were in the vehicle of the suspect, described as a white Chevy pickup truck that was also a stolen vehicle. She identified the suspect. The reporting party followed the vehicle to Highway 47 and 5th Street when Lt. Mike Stapp observed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. The vehicle fled north on Highway 47 across the Missouri River bridge into Warren County. Speeds reached about 100 MPH as the pursuit caught up to slower traffic. The suspect vehicle then drove northbound in the southbound lane right into oncoming traffic, so for the safety of the motorists Lt. Stapp terminated the pursuit and notified Communications.

A short time later a report was received from Marthasville Fire that one of their men observed the suspect pull into their driveway and take off running on foot. Lt. Stapp responded and confirmed it was the truck involved in the pursuit. It was soon learned that a suspect had forced his way into a residence nearby, but took off on foot again as officers arrived. The truck had been reported stolen from Lincoln County and had methamphetamine inside. Other stolen property was located inside also.

Approximately two hours later, another call was received for a suspicious person from a resident on Highway 94 near Blumenhoff Winery. Warren County deputies responded and located the suspect at the scene. He was taken into custody and transported to Mercy Hospital in Washington by Marthasville EMS. Minutes later, a second suspect was taken into custody by deputies nearby. The suspect driving was issued summons by Lt. Stapp for Driving While License Suspended, Failed to Yield to Emergency Vehicle, and Speeding. Warren County will investigate the remainder of the incident and will file appropriate charges on both suspects.
