Results of Friday Night Checkpoint in Washington

On Friday, September 13, 2013 from 10pm until Saturday at 2am, the Washington Police Department conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint at the intersection of Highway 47 and Washington Corners. 517 vehicles were checked on southbound Highway 47. Four individuals were taken into custody and the following charges sought:

Fugitive Arrest – 1
Drivers While License Suspended or Revoked – 2

The Washington Police Department appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists when these necessary checkpoints are conducted. They are a valuable tool to assist in removing impaired motorists from our roadways.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

The Washington Seniors came back to life with a 14-2 route of Manchester Post 208 in the loser's bracket of the state tournament in Sedalia Friday afternoon. Matt Miller pitched a complete game for the win, as Washington improved to 35-4. The victory puts Post 218 in the championship game against Fike-Blue Springs today. Washington will need to beat Fike twice to win state.
