Municipal Election Race Narrows

It looks like the April municipal election in Union just got easier for voters to decide. It was discovered that two candidates for Union Alderman have delinquent taxes for 2012 and therefore can’t be put on the ballot. One of the candidates was Tom Strubberg of Ward 4 and one was Jim Albrecht of Ward 1. At this point it would appear that both candidates signed their declaration of candidacy stating that their taxes were not delinquent. Union City Clerk Jonita Copeland says that because Jim Albrecht, an incumbent, cannot run the race for Ward 1 will be write-in only. Karen Irwin is the other candidate running for Ward 4 so that leaves just one Ward with any competition. That would be Ward 2 between Dennis Soetebeir and Vicky Jo Hooper. According to sources Strubberg thought his taxes were paid and Albrecht thought he could pay his before the election date.
