Missouri State Board of Education has Approved new Standards for Teacher Preparation Programs

The Missouri State Board of Education has approved new standards for teacher preparation programs. The new policy sets out standards for preparing future teachers and the requirements students must meet to earn their educator’s certificate. New Haven Superintendant Kyle Kruse attended the meeting yesterday and says the new standards should only affect local schools by providing them with better teachers. Officials have been working on the policy and say it will allow annual reviews of performance data for the first time. Kruse says the State Board of Education also discussed replacing the praxis test educators need to pass in order to become certified and replace it with a better, more comprehensive test. The State Board of Education approved the standards on Tuesday November 27, 2012. They will take effect on March 30, 2013.
