Local Motocross Racer Dies From Injuries

UPDATE Chris Blankenship, 38, of Rosebud, MO, died from his injuries suffered in Sunday night's motocross accident at the Washington Town & Country Fair. According to reports he died Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

EARLIER STORY A local area man competing in the 30 & over division of the motocross races at the Washington Town & Country Fair was critically injured on Sunday. According to the Washington Police Department, 38 year-old Chris Blankenship of Rosebud, MO, got into an accident during the race and went into cardiac arrest. Emergency crews on the scene were able to revive him on the track. Blankenship was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Washington, whereupon he was immediately airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. Washington police report that he remained in critical condition as of Monday morning.

In addition to competing in the motocross races, Blankenship is instrumental in the design and building of the motocross track at the Washington Fair, as well as other locations throughout the country. Dirt Wurx, the company for which Blankenship works, designs and builds tracks for motocross races worldwide.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 5-6 Freshman Basketball Player Cassidy Moss from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Cassidy was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sullivan Tournament last week and was an important part of Borgia's run to the title. She is averaging 15 points and 2.5 rebounds, more than three assists and two steals per game.
