Local Company Moves Into Harmon-Becker Building

The company that will move into the old Harmon-Becker building in Washington has finally been announced. Melton Machine & Control Company has purchased 851 Vossbrink Drive within the Heidmann Industrial Park in Washington, MO. The 89,000 + sq. ft. building was the former home to Harman International who closed manufacturing operations in June of 2012. The facility sits on 23 acres within the park and is located at the northeast corner of Highway 100 and Vossbrink Drive. Melton Machine & Control Company (MMCC) has a 154,000 sq. ft. facility in Washington located at 6350 Bluff Road. MMCC is a recognized leader in the field of automated arc welding, serving primarily the automotive industry. They are a value focused designer and builder of equipment, fixtures and tooling. MMCC is an innovative, experienced partner in developing custom solutions for factory automation.
MMCC was founded in 1970 and relocated from St. Louis to Washington in 1975. They built a new facility, at their existing location in 1999 and expanded in 2007 with an addition of 44,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space. MMCC is a 100% employee-owned company. They currently employ 92 full time employees and create many more quality jobs in the community through significant subcontracting. Computech Manufacturing Company, Inc. (CMC) was purchased by MMCC in May of 2010. CMC also designs and manufactures automated systems for pharmaceutical, military, aerospace and general manufacturing. Additional products of CMC include components for aircraft ignition systems and personal cooling devices for Nascar drivers and NASA astronauts. CMC currently employs 32 full-time employees.

“We are very pleased with Melton Machine & Control Company’s purchase of the former Harman facility. This was a win-win for the community and MMCC. As a community we are always striving to aid in the expansion of our existing industries. MMCC is a great community minded industry and we welcome both MMCC & CMC in their expansion plans. This is a perfect fit of a first rate facility for a first rate company.” said Darren Lamb, Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Washington.

“It is always exciting when a local industry expands in our community,” said Mayor Sandy Lucy. “We are very pleased to have the job creation by this expansion of MMCC and CMC”

“The recent recovery of the U.S. Auto Industry has afforded us unique opportunities and our response was being limited due to capacity constraints.” said Randy Folkmann, President and CEO of MMCC. “We looked at multiple options and this new facility represents a long term solution toward our goal of increasing the capacity for both of our companies. I would like to thank Mayor Lucy, the City of Washington, Darren Lamb and all of our own employees and service providers who have worked so hard in a cooperative effort to make this happen.”

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!
