Car Chase Leads Deputies to Riverfront Trail in Washington

At around noon on August 7, Franklin County Communications received a phone call that a property owner had just witnessed individuals attempting to steal items from his property on Coleman Road. He reported that he tried to block the vehicle but the suspects drove around him and fled. The victim gave a description of the vehicle but lost sight. While responding on Old Hwy 100, a deputy met the suspect vehicle just east of Washington on Old Hwy 100. The deputy turned around but the vehicle would not stop. The vehicle entered the bike trail at the east entrance near the water plant in the city of Washington. The deputy lost sight of the vehicle but continued down the trail. As he approached the Missouri River Bridge, he observed the vehicle off on the side of the road. The driver had fled on foot. Two subjects were inside the vehicle and surrendered to deputies and Washington Police who arrived on the scene to assist. Authorities searched the area but the third subject was not located. Occupants in the vehicle admitted to the thefts and informed deputies of the location of the property. The stolen property was located off Coleman Road where it had been hidden prior to the encounter with the deputy.
A white female that remained in the vehicle was released. A male subject, age 18 from Washington was taken in to custody for investigation of stealing. All subjects have a prior history with law enforcement.
